Risk Management of COVID-19 on NZOIA Courses - Alert Level 2

NZOIA will be working within the prescribed Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education guidelines to minimise the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.  We will work within the guidelines to protect the health, safety and well-being of all Assessors and participants on NZOIA training, revalidation and assessment courses.

We all have a role in slowing the progression of COVID-19 in Aotearoa.

If you are registered for running or attending an NZOIA course and are experiencing a cough, a high temperature (at least 38 degrees Celsius), shortness of breath, sore throat, sneezing and runny nose and/or temporary loss of smell or are awaiting COVID-19 test results, or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19 please:

    • Withdraw from the course by contacting the NZOIA office: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
    • Phone Healthline on the dedicated COVID-19 number at 0800 358 5453 or phone ahead to your general practice to be advised on what to do.

Our current measures to reduce the risk to all persons on NZOIA courses include:

    • Make specific plans with each Assessor for each course.
    • Spend the majority of the time in wide open spaces with fresh air.
    • Screen participants: in the week prior and at the start of the course.
      • Do you have any a cough, high temp, sore throat, sneeze and runny nose or temporary loss of smell?
      • Are you awaiting COVID-19 test results?
      • Have you returned from overseas in the last 2 weeks?
      • Have you been around anyone who has contracted COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks?
      • Are you at higher risk if you contracted COVID-19?
    • Hygiene and Sanitation:
      • Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water whenever practicable e.g. leaving accommodation, meeting rooms, toilets
      • Sanitise hands before the activity begins, throughout the activity (e.g. before gear exchange), before eating, and after the activity is completed. Please bring your personal sanitiser.  NZOIA will have sanitiser available if you forget yours or are unable to access some.
      • Wear and know how to use face coverings (mask, bandana, balaclava) if physical distancing is not possible during an activity. Use of face masks.  Please bring your personal face mask.  NZOIA will have a limited amount of face masks available if you forget yours or are unable to access one.
      • Protocols will be briefed at the beginning of the course:
        • Cough or sneeze into the elbow or cover your mouth and nose with tissues, placing any used tissues into a bag immediately
        • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
        • Avoid any unnecessary touching such as handshaking, hugs, hongi etc
        • Physical distancing implemented where practicable
      • Individual equipment should be used wherever practicable or shared in small groups if unavoidable.
    • Contact Tracing: NZOIA will have all the contacts of Assessors and participants on file.  We will check and update contact details prior to the course. The Assessor will include any other people the group are in contact with should the situation arise (name and two forms of contact e.g. email, phone, address). If into any facilities (e.g. toilet, café, meeting room) during the course we encourage you to scan the official QR codes with the NZ COVID Tracer app.
    • Isolation: Any person who presents COVID-19 symptoms during the course will be isolated and assisted to leave.  The participant will be encouraged to have a COVID-19 check.

We will continue to update our procedures and follow the guidance from the Ministry of Health and encourage you to do so too.
